A top load washing machine is a type of washing machine where the clothes are loaded from the top. It typically has a hinged lid or a lift-up door for easy access to the drum. loads may take longer to dry depending on the size of your machine and the load of laundry.
Both top load and front load washing machines have their advantages. Top load machines are generally more affordable and have faster wash cycles, while front load machines are more energy-efficient, provide better cleaning performance, and can be gentler on clothes.
To clean a top load washing machine, you can run a hot water cleaning cycle with a dedicated washing machine cleaner or an alternative cleaner such as vinegar. Additionally, regularly wiping the drum and dispensers, and keeping the lid open when not in use can help prevent odours and mould.
Front load washing machines are typically more energy-efficient compared to top load machines. They use less water and require less detergent, resulting in lower utility bills and a smaller environmental footprint.
Some disadvantages of top load washers include lower energy efficiency compared to front load machines, a tendency to use more water, and potentially less gentle treatment of clothes due to the agitator in some models. Additionally, they may have a smaller capacity compared to front load washers.
The lifespan of a top load washer can vary depending on factors such as usage, maintenance, and build quality. On average, a well-maintained retail top load washer can last from 5 to 10 years. A commercial top load washer can last upwards of 15 years.
Top load washers will only be harder on clothes if the machine is overloaded. If the correct amount of laundry is placed into the machine then the agitator will just spin the water while making minimal contact with the laundry.
